Calvary Baptist Church

God-centered, Truth-driven, Gospel-loving...

Text Box: Membership covenant

We believe that God has given Calvary Baptist Church the vision of a concerned Christian fellowship, growing in love and discipleship, where the lost may find faith and forgiveness of sins in Jesus Christ, and where all who come will find welcome and acceptance.  Accordingly, we earnestly and joyfully enter into covenant with each other, and with God, to bring this vision into reality.

Acknowledging our need to cherish and to nourish our relationship with the Lord, we will seek to draw near unto Him by the exercise and use of the spiritual disciplines.  Thus, we will seek to grow in worship and prayer, in the study of His word, and in the sharing of the glorious gospel both by word and life, striving to give no room to the flesh.

Believing that the Church is the body of the Lord Jesus Christ, we acknowledge that an essential part of our witness to the lost is the depth of our fellowship.  We believe that the church as Christ's body is meant to be a living parable of the awesome beauty, wholeness and balance of that body, and that the church is the living representative of Christ, His mission and His work here on earth.  Therefore we agree, as much as is within us, and with His help, to do nothing that will mar that wholeness or beauty which is our witness to each other and to the world.  We further engage, by His grace, to watch over each other in love;  to remember each other in prayer; to aid in sickness and distress; to be gentle and courteous in our dealings with each other, seeking to consider the other as better than self; to be slow to take offence; and to be always ready for, and the prime movers in reconciliation, and that without delay.  We agree to submit to each other in all our dealings, and to obey and submit to the godly admonitions and the godly discipline of the leadership of this church.

In response to Christ's command to spread the gospel, we resolve, by the leading of His Spirit, to reach out to the lost and the hurting of this world, and to demonstrate that God through Christ is reconciling the world to Himself.  We therefore engage to faithfully and regularly provide financial, spiritual, physical and intellectual support to local and foreign missions.

If we move from this community we undertake without delay to join ourselves to another body of believers who are of like precious faith.  If we feel led by the Spirit to separate ourselves from this fellowship we will, without delay, engage in earnest discussion and prayer with the leaders before we make any final decision, in order to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Realizing that Love is beyond the Law and beyond legislation we acknowledge that this covenant is but a reflection of the redemptive Love born on Calvary.  This Love, which purchased our Salvation at such great cost breaks down the separating walls between us, binds us together, and gives us common goals and purpose.  Since Love never fails, our covenant will last until it is no longer needed, until that day when with new and sinless minds and bodies we will be able to do exceedingly more than this covenant suggests or imagines.  On that day, we will come together lost in the wonder, love and praise of our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom be honour and glory for ever and ever.   AMEN.
